About Big Cigar Astronomy

What's with the name?

The name Big Cigar Astronomy came about while we were thinking of what we wanted to name this venture. We thought of many different names, most of which had to do with celestial bodies, constellations and the like. Trent stated that he really did not want to "be like everyone else" so all of those names were scrapped and Trent came up with the name that has stuck.

What do big cigars have to do with anything?

Good question! ;-)

We were extremely fortunate in the Spring of 2001 to happen along an incredible collection of Astro-Physics telescopes and mounts owned by George Oliver of Racine, WI. Mark purchased an Astro--Physics 155 EDFS 6.1" Apochromatic Refractor. Trent purchased a pristine example of the legendary Astro-Physics 180 EDF 7.1" f7!

So, because the refractors have the same general shape as a cigar and they are big, well, I think you know where I'm going with this!

Oh yeah, we also like to partake in the enjoyment of a fine cigar on occasion!!
